Faleke says it’s not by force to be Deputy Governor

The APC was authorized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to choose a replacement for Audu following his death on November 22, 2015, after the initial election which held on November 21.

James Faleke, the running mate to late All Progressives Congress (APC), governorship candidate in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, has said that he can’t be forced to serve as deputy governor of the state under new Governor, Yahaya Bello.

The APC was authorized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to choose a replacement for Audu following his death on November 22, 2015, after the initial election which held on November 21.

Bello was chosen by the party and declared governor by INECon Sunday, December 6 after supplementary polls were held in the state on December 5.

Faleke was also chosen by the APC to be Bello’s running mate but he insisted that he was the rightful governor-elect of the state and has taken the matter to court.

“The result of Saturday’s supplementary election has further confirmed my earlier position that we won the election of Saturday November 21st. My position is that I have appealed the case and nobody can force me to be deputy governor-elect to Yahaya Bello,” Faleke said through his media aide, Duro Meseko, according to The Guardian.

“I have taken the position that I am the winner of the election and even the election declared yesterday with the total votes cast which was a little above 12, 000 has vindicated the Audu/ Faleke campaign organisation that they should have been declared winner in the first place and that there was no need for the supplementary election,” he added.

Faleke initially presented his case against INEC before the Federal High Court in Abuja but was forced to proceed to the Court of Appeal after the case was thrown out.

He has chosen Audu’s son, Mohammed as his running mate.
