APC says ex-Gov's defection is a welcome development

Daban said the party was highly delighted to receive Dariye, adding that his defection would make the APC stronger.

Joshua Dariye

He made the remark in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Jos.

Daban, who said that the party was highly delighted to receive Dariye,  added that his defection would make the APC stronger.

He noted that defection was the best decision to take as a politician at the moment “because it will be unwise for the distinguished senator to continue to be in a party that is enmeshed in crises both at the state and at the national level.

“The senator as a politician has read the situation and has taken a decision and for us as a party, it is a welcome development.

“The PDP’s description of Dariye as `a liability and confusion,’ was mere sentiment because they lost him.

“We know that deep down; they are weeping, lamenting and gnashing their teeth for losing somebody that is very important in the politics of Plateau.

“What they are saying is just political gimmicks; they are already missing him.”

Other PDP defectors into the APC include Pauline Tallen, Hon. Diket Plang and Hon. Abbas Wolgum, former members of Plateau House of Assembly, he said.

The APC chairman added that many former commissioners during Jonah Jang’s tenure have also defected to the APC.

He noted that “to me, Dariye is one among many that have decamped to the APC across the state.”

Dariye, who was elected on the platform of the PDP, had on September22, at the National Assembly plenary defected to the ruling APC.

The former Governor of Plateau had cited crises in the PDP as his reason for the defection.
