The elections caused tensions to rise all over the world as many expected the country to be torn apart by violence. The reverse was the case however as the elections were conducted relatively peacefully with Jega at the helm of affairs.

The INEC Chairman has been widely praised for the successful elections and for his composure when faced with difficult circumstances surrounding the polls.

Below are Jega’s top three 2015 election moments:

  1. Orubebe Drama: While announcing the results for the March 28 presidential elections, Jega was accused of tribalism and bias by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Godsday Orubebe. Orubebe caused a scene but Jega tactfully diffused the situation.

  2. Election Postponement: Nigeria’s 2015 elections were postponed from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11. While announcing the postponement, Jega made it clear that the decision to shift the polls was not his or INEC’s. It was later discovered that he had been forced to announce the postponement.

  3. Resignation Drama: During the period preceding the elections, Jega came under serious pressure to resign. His supposed resignation was announced many times and protests were held demanding that he vacate the office. Despite this however, he stood firm and went on to conduct the elections, believed to be Nigeria’s best till date.
