Today, May 29, 2015 is the inauguration ceremony of Nigeria’s President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

The ceremony commenced at 9am at the Eagle Square in Abuja. Stay tuned as Pulse brings you live updates from the ceremony as events unfold.
 

11:20 - Newly sworn-in president, Buhari goes on guard parade

 

10:51 - Cheers and screams as Muhammadu Buhari takes his oath of allegiance and is sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. After his swearing-in, a celebratory song was rendered by KWAM 1 who led chants of “Sai Buhari.”

 

10:41 - Osinbajo and wife take oath of allegiance. He is now the Vice President of Nigeria

 

10:25 - Buhari and Jonathan exchange pleasantries

 

10:20AM - Outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan arrives Eagles Square. All stand as the National Anthem is being sung.

10:13AM - President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has arrived. He is greeting the large number of VIP guests before taking his seat.

9:44 - Equatorial Guinea, president Theodore Nguema arrives Eagle Square for the inauguration.

 

7:30 - Family members of President-elect Buhari and Vice-President-elect Osinbajo arrive
 

7:10 - The presidential inauguration motor arrives (a bulletproof Mercedes Benz)

 

7:00 - Security personnel are situated at the Eagles Square, Abuja numbering into the hundreds including the SSS, Polce, NSCDC, and many others.

May 29, 2015 - All roads lead to the Eagles Square, Abuja where the inauguration ceremony marking transition of power holds.

May 28, 2015: Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, arrives in Nigeria for the inauguration.

Security is tight in and around the vicinity of the Eagles Square. At the moment there are well over a thousand security personnel involving Soldiers, SSS, Polce, NSCDC, and many others.
