In what looks like a Buhari effect, ten governorship candidates in Lagos State have backed off the race and declared their support for the All Progressives Congress flag bearer, Akinwunmi Ambode.
According to a statement released on Friday April 3, the candidates said they have joined hands with Ambode to give Lagos a deserving government.
“Without mincing words, we collectively as candidates of various political parties, have decided to join hands together with Akinwunmi Ambode of APC to give Lagosians a deserving government at this time.”
“We unanimously give our unwavering solidarity to work together with Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode of the APC come 11th April 2015, slated by the Independent National Electoral Commission for gubernatorial election,” the statement read.
The ten candidates who made a U-turn in just eight days to the gubernatorial elections include; Adeshina Buruji of Accord Party, Obadia Akinola of Independent Democrats, Ishola Aregbesola of Action Alliance and Babatunde Sarumi of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria.
Others include Abiodun Oyegunle of the African People’s Alliance, Victor Adeniji of KOWA Party, Adeshina Olayokun of All Progressives Grand Alliance, Sesan Olatunde of New Nigeria’s People Party, Sylvester Eze of the Citizens Popular Party, and Pauline Ojochide of the Progressives People’s Alliance.
The candidates have also charged their supporters to join the ‘Ambode for Lagos’ movement.
"We enjoin all our teeming supporters across the state to take this declaration and sound it loud and clear that Akinwunmi Ambode, is the candidate to take Lagos to the next level,” they affirmed.
