State Assembly passes bill to amend sickle cell centre law

Majority Leader of the house, Mr Foly Ogedemgbe (APC-Owan East) moved the motion for the house to dissolve into the committee of the whole to consider the bill.

Mrs Elizabeth Ativie (APC- Uhunmwode) seconded the motion.

Considering the bill, the Speaker of the house, Dr Justin Okonoboh, announced the passage of the bill.

He said that when signed, the law would now be known as the Edo State Sickle Cell Centre Law 2017.

Okonoboh said the bill provided that the sickle cell centre should begin 24-hour service to enable patients to “access comprehensive and affordable health care services”.

He said that the centre shall now be headed by a chief medical director in place of an administrative secretary.

He directed that clean copies of the bill should be sent to the governor for his assent.
