Supplementary governorship elections to hold on January 9, 2016

The decision was said to have been reached by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after a stakeholders meeting on Thursday, December 17, 2015.

The supplementary governorship elections in Bayelsa State have been scheduled to hold on January 9, 2016.

The decision was said to have been reached by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after a stakeholders meeting on Thursday, December 17, 2015.

The fresh polls will hold in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of in some other units in seven other local government areas of the state.

It was also reportedly agreed at the meeting that the police should play a leading role in providing security as against the use of the military in the initial elections.

The meeting was attended by INEC Chairman, Professor  Mahmood Yakubu, National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, all governorship candidates and other stakeholders.

INEC declared the December 5 election inconclusive after the cancellation of the Southern Ijaw polls.
