More than 5000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State have reportedly defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The mass defection is said to have held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, in the Obot Akara Local Government Area of the state, according to Leadership.
The event also reportedly doubled as a reception in honour of APC House of Representatives candidate, Austin Mbeh whose election petition against Idongesit Ntepere of the PDP was upheld by the Court of Appeal.
Mbeh, is said to have described the PDP as “dead and buried” while addressing the crowd which attended the ceremony.
The political leader of the area, Abom Tony Esu, also thanked the defectors for “seeing the truth and embracing the light” adding that the exodus from the PDP to the APC was the pathway to liberation.
The PDP has witnessed a flurry of defections since losing its ruling party status to the APC during the 2015 elections.
