Ex-president becomes 1st African leader to receive Diplomatic Circles award

Jonathan, who is the first African leader to receive the award, will also be a guest speaker at the group’s annual dinner on January 21, 2016.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan is set to be honoured with an award by the Diplomatic Circle in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Diplomatic Circle, a group of diplomats from around the world, is honouring the former Nigerian President for his democratic credentials and efforts towards “upholding human rights in Africa”.

Jonathan earned worldwide accolade to President Muhammadu Buhari after the March 28 elections, thus preventing Nigeria from erupting into massive waves of electoral violence which many around the world had predicted would occur.

He was recently chosen to head a Commonwealth observer mission for the Tanzania elections and was also called upon to intervene in Zanzibar’s political stalemate.

Meanwhile, former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida has said that Jonathan was inexperienced as a leader and not incompetent as many believed.
