Minister lists Buhari's agenda in labour sector

The Minister pledged that the ministry would leverage on advancement in information communication technology to resuscitate job centres

Repositioning the Ministry of Labour and Employment to meet the challenges of unemployment and maintaining industrial harmony in the labour sector is a major agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Samuel Olowookere, Deputy Director, Press and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

The statement said that Sen. Chris Ngige, the Minster of Labour and Employment, made the statement when heads of departments in the ministry briefed him on their activities.

It said that the briefing which also had in attendance, the Minister for State, Mr James Ocholi was conveyed with a view to providing efficient labour administration in Nigeria.

The statement said that the minister used the occasion to affirm government’s readiness to work with organised labour unions and employers of labour to ensure peaceful industrial environment.

It quoted the Minister as saying, "maintenance of industrial peace and harmony and job creation is a cardinal point of this administration.

"We will partner with organised labour unions and employers of labour to ensure the creation of decent employment for teeming Nigerian youths."

The statement said that Ngige pledged that the ministry would leverage on advancement in information communication technology to resuscitate job centres for job placement.

He said that the ministry would ensure the provision of social security to the vulnerable through the development of social security and ratification of ILO convention.
