Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has no reason to resign from his present position, a former deputy governor of Kaduna State, James Bawa Magaji has said.

Saraki is being accused by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for wrongfully declaring his assets 13 years ago when he was governor of Kwara State. The Senator who is standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), said recently that he is facing persecution because he emerged Senate Present against the powers that be.

"I have certificate from the CCB stating that the declaration I made in 2003 was okey," Saraki has said. A close ally to the Senate President, Sen Dino Melaye, has also said that Saraki is "irremovable."

Responding to calls that the Senate President should resign from his present position to allow for a smooth trial, the former deputy governor of Kaduna State, Magaji, said Saraki has no reason to resign.

In an exclusive chat with Pulse, Magaji said: "My Politics right from Student Union days has been that of progressive. It should be yes or no. Let me tell you, for people who are calling for Saraki's resignation as Senate President, I think they don't know what they are doing. We have not developed such principles. If it were to be in more advanced countries, they will put principles before office," Magaji said.

"The senate president is not under any obligation to resign but he should circumspect," Magaji added.
