President Muhammadu Buhari holds two-day retreat for ministerial candidates in Abuja

After months of waiting, Nigeria finally has ministers who will make up President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

The president’s 36 ministers will be sworn-in today, November 11, 2015, at a ceremony which is currently holding at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The ministerial candidates are taking their oaths before the President in batches of four.

Buhari had received severe criticism for his delay in forming a cabinet and many said that his actions had stalled the country’s progress.

The president promised to appoint ministers in September but only managed to submit a list of 21 names at the end of that month.

Following a dramatic screening process by the Senate, the ministers are finally being delivered two months after the deadline.

Buhari has however said that not all his ministers will have official portfolios and made it clear that he only appointed 36 to satisfy constitutional requirements.

The president has also warned the incoming cabinet members to shun impunity and ensure that they are vehicles for the change he has so persistently promised.
