Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Atiku disclosed his defection in a live Facebook message on Sunday, December 3, 2017.

He said he decided to "return home" now that issues which made him leave the PDP have been resolved.

Atiku had resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week, saying the ruling party has failed Nigerians and no longer stands for true democracy.

The vice president's defection, however, did not come as a surprise to many as his return to the PDP was inevitable if he would have a chance to actualise his ambition to become Nigeria's president in 2019.

In an interview with Dele Momodu, the Publisher of The Boss magazine, at the weekend, Atiku had said that Buhari has wasted his massive goodwill, adding that he would defeat the President in 2019.
