Ambode Reps summon Lagos Governor, others over $470m CCTV deal probe

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state and other top officials of the Nigerian government have been summoned by the House of Representatives to clarify the details of the  $470m CCTV deal.

The past administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan awarded the contract for the installation of Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) in Abuja and Lagos for beef up the security of the two cities.

The contract was awarded to a Chinese company, ZTE Corporation.

Also invited to the probe hearing are: the National Security Adviser (NSA) General Babagana Monguno (rtd), minister of finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

Leadership reports that a member of the Reps ad-hoc committee probing the CCTV deal, Hon. Yarima said “the committee's mission was to recover public funds and that anyone found wanting would be made to face the music.

“There is continuity in governance and that current government officials should have met the records of such contracts, which was why they have been invited too.”

Yarima also said the committee had done their due diligence, and put together relevant information on the contract.

He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to act on the outcome of their investigation.

Also invited to the hearing are ZTE Corporation of China; Nigeria Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT);  BC-TEC Engineering; NETLINK Broadband Networks Limited; OPEN SKYS Services Limited; LTS Security and Communication Limited; DG Debt Management Office (DMO); FIRS chairman; Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the DG Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP).
