Ex-Governor to be screened by Senate today, October 20

Amaechi was originally scheduled to be screened by the legislators on Wednesday, 14, along with nine other nominees.

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi is set to be screened by the Senate today, October 20, 2015, following his ministerial nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari.

His appearance was however postponed due to the inability of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on a petition against him.

Amaechi’s nomination was challenged by three Senators from his state who cited allegations of corruption levelled against him.

The Senate committee however decided that the charges couldn’t serve as grounds to prevent his confirmation as minister as the case was still pending in court.

The upper legislative chamber has so far confirmed 18 out of President Buhari’s 36 ministerial nominees.
