Ex-governor’s ministerial screening postponed to October 20

Amaechi was originally scheduled to be screened by the legislators on Wednesday, 14, along with nine other nominees.

The Senate has postponed the ministerial screening of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi to Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

His appearance was however postponed due to the inability of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on a petition against him.

Committee Chairman, Sam Anyanwu earlier promised that the report would be submitted today, October 15, to facilitate Amaechi’s screening but the Senate has announced that the exercise will continue next week Tuesday.

“Ladies and gentlemen. There will be no #MinisterialScreening today. We will continue on Tuesday. We will tweet CVs of new nominees,” the Senate wrote via Twitter.

Amaechi’s nomination was challenged by three Senators from his state who cited the allegations of corruption levelled against him.

The Senate committee however decided that the charges couldn’t serve as grounds to prevent his confirmation as minister as the case was still pending in court.

The upper legislative chamber has so far confirmed 18 out of President Muhammadu Buhari’s 36 ministerial nominees.
