‘North is getting poorer,’ former Governor says

Aliyu called on well-meaning Northerners to come together and develop the state, adding that partisanship will not make the region go forward.

The former Governor of Niger state, Dr. Babangida Aliyu has expressed his displeasure at the state of the economy of the Northern states

Aliyu said this after a management meeting of the leadership of the Sardauna Memorial Foundation in Kaduna.

He said “If anybody is to see the situation we are in within the North, you would know that we are poorer than the other part of the country. Something extra must be done by all of us regardless of political party differences, because there is no partisanship in terms of development of our community.”

He also called on well-meaning Northerners to come together and develop the state, adding that partisanship will not make the region go forward.

Aliyu said “There   is no partisanship in terms of development of our community and that we must mobilise everybody to make sure that our security is back and the people are secured and that economic development is ensured.”

“And that the youth are really mobilised for positive activities — that is what we have not done well so far. And that we would come back to look at some of the instructions we have given for the consolidation and the implementation of the decision we have taken,” he said.

The North-Eastern region of Nigeria has been devastated by constant attacks by the dreaded Boko-Haram.
