According to the statement made by the the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr. Kufre Okon, upon proper deliberation by the legislators, the content of the proposed budget was regarded as being laudable with the current economic situation in Nigeria.
Quoting the statement by Mr. Kufre Okon, “The composition of the 2016 budget sent to the House by the Executive reflects that the administration of Governor Emmanuel is truly committed to its industrialization agenda for Akwa Ibom State.”
The house promised full implementation upon approval of the budget, while restating that the Sixth Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is concerned with the welfare of the citizens and would pass a budget which reflects the yearnings of the people.
Meanwhile, Speaking with newsmen yesterday 30 December 2015 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr. Kufre Okon, announced that Mrs. Felicia Bassey, has been elected the Deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Mrs. Felicia Bassey who emerged as the first female Deputy Speaker is of the Okobo state constituency is also the Chair Person of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Welfare Matters in Akwa Ibom State.
Felicia Bassey, who was sworn in by the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr. Onofiok Luke, replaced the former Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Effiong Bassey, whose election was nullified last week by a Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja.
She was urged by the speaker of the house to live up to the expectation of the sixth Assembly while discharging her legislative duties.
Speaking on the capability of the new deputy speaker, other members of the house have described her as competent while restating also that the position was well-deserved.
