Court releases ex-governor on bail

Lamido was imprisoned on Tuesday, May 2, after being accused of conduct capable of breaching the peace.

The former governor was granted bail on self-recognizance by the court on Thursday, May 4.

“(There is) no evidence before the court that if the accused person his granted bail he will jump bail and no evidence other people will commit similar offense and that the accused will jeopardize peace of the state,” the Magistrate, Muhammad Lamin ruled according to Premium Times.

The former governor was arrested on Sunday, April 30, after the state government accused him of encouraging his supporters in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to engage in violence.

Meanwhile, the PDP has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using security agencies to attack opposition party members.
