‘Buhari should be honest about his health because he’s public property,’ Nobel Laureate says

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka made the comments on Friday, April 28, while speaking to journalists in Lagos.

Soyinka also said that Buhari is obligated to make the information public because he’s public property.

The Nobel Laureate made the comments on Friday, April 28, while speaking to journalists in Lagos.

“Why is the president hiding his state of health? He’s supposed to understand he’s public property, me I’m still private property, that’s why I’m not in Aso Rock,” Soyinka said according to Premium Times.

“Once you are in Aso Rock, or you occupy a similar position, you have a responsibility to come out frankly to your citizens.

“Guarding your state of health like Donald Trump is guarding his tax returns is not what we expect from a Nigerian president.

“Let him address the nation and stop all these speculations which create unnecessary political manipulations among other things," he added.

Buhari’s repeated absence from public functions has caused concerns about his health.

The president has failed to attend two Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings and was also absent at the Aso Rock Juma’at service on Friday.

The Presidency has however dismissed concerns about the president’s health saying that his doctors had simply warned him to slow down but there was no cause for alarm.
