Sokoto Government approves N1.6b for educational materials

Alhaji Isah Achida, Commissioner for Information, said over N200 million of the amount was for the provision of furniture to schools.

Addressing a press conference in Sokoto, Alhaji Isah Achida, Commissioner for Information, said over N200 million of the amount was for the provision of furniture to schools in Sokoto South, Sokoto East and Sokoto Central senatorial districts.

He said the approved funds would also be used to procure mattresses and beds for Sheikh Gumi Memorial College, Sultan Bello, Hafsat Bello and Abdullahi Barau secondary schools.

Achida added that N139 million was approved for science equipment for primary and junior secondary schools; N377 million for the schools’ records and N177 million to equip Early Child Care Development Centres.

According to him, the government would also spend N506 million on educational materials for post secondary schools.

The commissioner said the contract processes had been completed and local content considered before approval.
