Umar incidentally, is the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
He was accused of asking for, and receiving a bribe from a retired Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Rasheed Taiwo.
The Senate’s decision to probe the N10m bribe allegation levelled against Umar, was as a result of a petition sent to it, by a group called the Anti-corruption Network, which was presented by Senator Obinna Ogba.
The CCT chairman was accused recently of collecting the sum of N1.8m as bribe, through his personal assistant, Abdullahi Gambo.
A suit was also filed against him, by a body called the Peace and Development Initiative, asking Umar to leave his position as Tribunal chairman.
Reports say the group also provided a photocopied cheque of N1.8m which was allegedly paid to Umar through his PA.
Saraki was arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, over allegations of false declaration of assets, and the CCT chairman, made sure he was not treated specially.
