Saraki has been accused of false asset declaration by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The Senate President’s application was dismissed by CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar who ruled that the tribunal had the jurisdiction to conduct the trial.
Saraki’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, had argued that the charges were invalid because the CCB didn’t allow the Senate President explain the inconsistencies in his assets declaration forms which gave rise to the trial.
Umar however ruled that the Senate President could still be allowed to give his explanation before the tribunal.
Saraki has approached the Federal High Courts in Lagos and Abuja, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court all in a bid to stop the trial but has failed at every attempt.
