It was drama yesterday as a presidential nominee for the membership of the governing board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aliyu Saidu Abubakar, declared that the Senate should be scrapped because it consumes too much money from the treasury.

The Senate has ordered an investigation into the arrest of some judges by the Department of State Services (DSS), adopting a motion to that effect by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, David Umaur, the upper legislative chamber directed the panel to do whatever it could within its constitutional oversight powers to carry out the assignment.

CBN to guarantee Letters of Credit for importers

In fulfilment of its pledge to fund forward sales under the new flexible foreign exchange regime, the Central Bank of Nigeria has said it will in the next few months fund the 60-day forward sales and request from the agricultural, aviation, machinery and raw materials sectors, thus guaranteeing letters of credit for importers to ship in required goods.
