Two high chiefs lay claim to Olubadan throne

The age-long smooth ascension to the throne of the Olubadan of Ibadanland appears to be under threat as a two top Ibadan chiefs have laid claim to the coveted throne. While the Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Saliu Adetunji, as the next in rank to the late Olubadan, anticipates his installation as the next Olubadan, the Otun Seriki of Ibadan, Chief Adebayo Oyediji, says he is the ‘‘next Olubadan’’. N470m lost daily to gas pipeline attacks - FG

SIM registration: Minister warns operators of sanctions

The Federal Government has warned mobile telecommunication providers to treat Nigerians with decency and play by the rules or face sanctions. The Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, gave the warning in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Victor Oluwadamilare, in Abuja on Wednesday.

EFCC chief Magu: more looters will go to prison

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Acting Chairman Ibrahim Mustafa Magu spoke yesterday on the fight against corruption, saying it will be unsparing. Besides, the EFCC boss agreed that the rate of convictions in corruption cases may be low, but he is sure that more looters will go to jail this year.

Olubadan died after holy communion, says priest

Ibadan, West Africa’s largest city, was yesterday coming to terms with the passing on of its revered monarch – Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade 1. The city was in a mixed mood — mourning and celebration  – sad about the departed 101-year-old monarch and excited about the expected coronation of the next in line, the Balogun Olubadan, High Chief Saliu Adetunji, as the Olubadan.

Court slams Metuh with N400 bail

A Federal High Court sitting before Justice Okon Abanga has slammed the embattled National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olisah Metuh, with N400 million bail. The court in its ruling on the bail application filed by the counsel to Metuh, the court asked for two sureties in the sum of N200 million each, who must have property in Maitama area of Abuja with statutory registration of occupancy.
