Polio immunisation campaign.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabir Getso, made this known while briefing newsmen as part of activities to mark the 2016 World Polio Day in Kano on Monday.

He said that Kano has not recorded a single wild polio virus case in the last two years, an achievement he attributed to corporate responsibility by all stakeholders.

Getso, however, urged communities to sustain the tempo by continued mobilisation to ensure that all children were immunised to avoid reoccurring cases.

He lauded the efforts of traditional institutions, development partners and the media, in the success recorded over the past years.

The commissioner noted that though some communities were still resisting the vaccine, government has done its best to resolve the issues related to resistance.

Kano joined the world in celebrating the World Polio Day with this year’s theme being: “End polio now”.
