Abductors of American woman reduce ransom to N30M

Reverend Sortor was abducted by unidentified gunmen from Hope Academy in Emiworo Village, Kogi State on Monday, February 23.

The abductors of American missionary, Phyllis Sortor have reduced their ransom demand to N30 million from an initial sum of N60 million.

Reverend Sortor was abducted by unidentified gunmen from Hope Academy in Emiworo Village, Kogi State on Monday, February 23.

Her captors had called the Superintendent of the Free Methodist Missionary church, Mathius Emenike, on Tuesday, 24, to make their initial demand but are said to have reduced the sum via another phone call on Wednesday, 25.

Reverend Sortor, who works with the church, was also said to have spoken to Emenike urging him to make efforts to raise the money to secure her release.

“The kidnappers spoke with the superintendent of the missionary church, Mr Mathius Emenike where the ransom was reduced to N30m. In the conversation, Mrs Sortor pleaded with Emenike to try by all means and raise the money to enable her regain her freedom,” the principal of the school, Roseline Ojone Shaibu said.

Sortor’s abduction has been condemned by the state Governor, Idris Wada who described it as barbaric and ungodly and urged security agencies to do everything necessary to secure her release.
