Workers to receive salary arrears

The payment would not include the local government staffs that have already collected their March and April salaries.

 Mr Waheed Olojede, Chairman, Oyo state Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said that workers in the state would start collecting their outstanding salary arrears from this week.

Olojede said this was based on an agreement reached between the government and the state chapter of NLC.

"Workers in Oyo state will start getting the arrears of their outstanding salaries starting from this week," he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that while local government staff are owed salaries of May and June, other workers in the state were owed salaries of April, May and June.

Olojede, who revealed the information in Ibadan on Sunday, said that the exercise would begin with the payment of March salary to workers in the mainstream on Grade Level 13 and above.

According to him, the payment would not include the local government staffs that have already collected their March and April salaries.

"With the sustained consultation of labour union with the Oyo State Government over the weekend, it is now clear that payment of the balance of March salary to workers in the mainstream of public service on Grade Level 13 and above."

"Also, pensions and subventions to the judiciary and state higher institutions will commence with immediate effect," it said.

He said that the state government and labour talk resumes on Tuesday on other outstanding for April, May and June, saying: "Workers are to please be on the alert accordingly.’’

Olojede said the absence of a commissioner made the negotiation difficult when Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State was not around.

He also assured workers in the state that the hardship experienced in the last few months would soon be over.
