Monarch replies critics, says God is greater

This is following a publication by an online portal, criticising the monarch for bowing to God.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has asked those who criticised him for kneeling down in church, during his coronation thanksgiving service, not to equate him to God.

The Ooni in a statement released by his media aide, Mr.  Moses Olafare, said “God remains the highest, the king of kings  who has kept all kings  alive and has made it possible for me to be crowned as the  king  of the source of Yoruba civilisation.”

Adding that “This act of equating me to God of gods of king of kings  and the sole owner of the universe is a wicked sacrilege planned to embarrass the throne. My emergence as Oba has been made possible only by the almighty Olodumare to whom I remain eternally grateful.”

“I have no  regrets whatsoever for kneeling down to exalt the almighty God who did not only create me,  but also kept me alive, saw me through all the storms in my,  life-journey and eventually crowned me as the custodian  of Oodua race,” the statement said.

The Ooni of Ife is seen as the father of Ile Ife, the ancestral home of the Yorubas.

The royal dynasty dates back to 500 B.C and was pioneered by Ooni Odùduwà who is the ancestral father figure for all Yorubas.
