Court prevents ex-President from publishing autobiography

The court issued an order on Friday, December 6, preventing Obasanjo from releasing the book until the determination of the libel suit instituted against him.

A court in Abuja has restrained former President Olusegun Obasanjo from publishing his autobiography titled “My Watch.”

The restraining order on the former President was requested by Buruji Kashamu, a chieftain of the Ogun State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The court order reads:

“The defendant, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, whether by himself, his agents, servants, privies or any other person by whatever name called and howsoever described, is hereby restrained from publishing or caused to be published in the yet to be published book, ‘My Watch’ or any autobiography or biography and any extracts of same, by whatever name called or howsoever titled, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice hereof.”

Kashamu reportedly made the request due to allegations of drug peddling levelled against him by Obasanjo.

The former president made the accusations in a letter titled “Before it is too late” which he wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan in December 2013.

Kashamu is suing the former president for N20 billion in damages. The case has been adjourned to December 10.
