The Njiko Ndigbo Forum has joined other South-eastern groups in the call for the Federal Government to release their son, Nnamdi Kanu.

A statement released by the President of the group, Okechukwu Obioha said “While we salutae the courage of Nnamdi Kanu’s stand, which will encourage and strengthen the attitude of the citizenry as to the obedience of verdicts from the judiciary, we urge the judiciary to use this case to prove that they are very important, strong and independent arm of our democracy.”

The forum also expressed their displeasure over the nonchalant attitude displayed by Igbo elders, about Kanu’s predicament, which they described as a violation of human rights.

You will recall that the Senior Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, on December 16, 2015, discharged the Director of Radio Biafra and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB),of allegations brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Also, the Abuja Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Adeniyi Ademola on Thursday, December 17, 2015, ordered kanu’s immediate release, adding that his continued detention by the DSS was illegal.

Following the announcement of his release by the court, Kanu’s father, His Royal Higness- Eze  Israel Kanu thanked President Buhari.

The Federal Government also filed fresh charges of treasonable felony against the IPOB leader before the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja, on December 22, 2015.

Kanu objected to his trial by a Federal High Court judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, due to the Federal Government’s repeated disobedience of court orders relating to the case.

Nnamdi Kanu was reportedly arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in his hotel room.
