Agency arrests 63, recovers 130.2 kgs of illicit drugs

Ejim said that the drugs found on them include: 24.15kgs of cannabis sativa and 106kgs of various categories of psychotropic substances comprising Tramadol tablets and capsules.

The Zamfara State office of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had arrested 63 suspects and confiscated 130.2 kolgrammes (kgs) of various illicit drugs in the first quarter of 2016.

Its commander, Mr Thomas Ejim, disclosed this while parading some suspected drug traffickers before journalists in Gusau on Thursday.

Other illicit drugs include: D-5 tablets, Rohypnol, Pantavizine injection and Nitrazepan tablets.

According to him, 47 out of the 63 suspects arrested were being counseled by the command while 14 suspects had been convicted.

The commander said that among the arrested suspects was one John Ejike, who was caught with 94.1 kgs of Tramadol packaged in seven cartons at Kanteen Daji area of Gusau.

''We also arrested a luxurious bus conveying psychotropic substances weighing up to 4.5 kgs, belonging to one of the passengers, Emmanuel Otodile,'' he said.

Ejim explained that the suspects were being interrogated at the command.
