Agency arrests 3, seizes 964kg Indian Hemp in Nasarawa State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nasarawa State Command, has arrested three suspects for allegedly being in possession of 964 kilogrammes of Indian hemp.

Mr Sumaila Ethan, the Nasarawa State Commander of NDLEA, told newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia that the suspects were arrested in Keffi on April 7 on their way to Jos.

Ethan said that the drug concealed in 72 bags was discovered in a truck conveying household items from Lagos to Jos, Plateau.

The Commander decried the alarming increase in the activities of drug traffickers in the state and called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to check the trend.

According to him, the recent arrests and seizures of cannabis sativa and other psychotropic substances call for concern and collaborative efforts to curb the menace.

He disclosed that the Command had arrested 31 suspected drug traffickers in the state from January to date and also seized 1, 424.3 kilogrammes of narcotics within the period.

The commander said that seven of the 31 suspects had been successfully prosecuted, while trial of others in court were ongoing.
