Inaugurating the three storey office complex in Port Harcourt, the NDDC Managing Director, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, said that the building would ease accommodation challenge and improve productivity of workers.
She explained that ``as soon as I was appointed, I felt that NDDC workers in Rivers office needed an accommodation and working tools that would enable them to provide good services to the people.
``Today, we are celebrating our success; milestone and commitment to making a difference not only in the lives of the people of the Niger Delta region but in our staffers as well.
``Our decision is to ensure that NDDC exits all rented accommodation at the headquarters and across all states to enable us to conserve scarce resources we should be using to develop our communities.
``This building was made possible with support of management and staff that backed my insistence that we must exit 16 years of operating in a rented facility for our workers in the Rivers office.''
The NDDC boss said the building has facilities such as large reception hall, conference/multi-purpose hall for 250 people, staff canteen, sick bay, internal courtyard and offices for drivers.
Others include spaces for offices; a basement floor for archiving and car park.
Semenitari said that NDDC was set up to intervene in the provision of critical infrastructure and development of human and natural resources, assuringthat NDDC was focused in achieving its mandate.
According to her, NDDC is committed to completing other ongoing projects as funds permit, while pushing further the resolve to take giant strides to facilitate the all-round development of the region.
She thanked the host community, Rebisi kingdom, for its support and commended Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo for donating two hectares of land for the building of NDDC office in Benin City.
