The former speaker was impeached over allegations of financial misappropriation and high-handedness.

Igbuya was impeached on Thursday, May 11, and immediately replaced by Sheriff Oborevwori.

The former speaker was impeached over allegations of financial misappropriation and high-handedness, Punch reports.

Igbuya was also suspended for three months by his colleagues in a meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker, Friday Osanebi.

The Assembly also impeached Majority Leader, Tim Owhofere and suspended him indefinitely.

Johnson Erijo, representative of Isoko South II, has been elected as the new Majority Leader.

Erijo condemned Igbuya’s incompetence and unacceptable leadership style and said that a new Speaker was needed for the House to move forward.
