FG will employ 10,000 NDLEA officers in 2017 – AGF

The Federal Government will employ 10,000 officers into the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in 2017.

NDLEA  impounds 4,000Kg of illicit drugs.

The immediate appointment of 5000 staff into the has also been approved by the government, according to Leadership.

Malami made the disclosure on Monday, September 5, 2016, during the recent Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ministerial meeting on the Regional Action Plan to address illicit drug trafficking, organized crime and drug abuse in the sub-region.

“The world is currently divided in terms of drug control policies; there are countries where drug trafficking and abuse is punishable by death, others are advocating for legalization or decriminalization of certain drugs,” Malami said.

“The ECOWAS Drug Action Plan outlines the position that the member states are advocating for. That is, to punish trafficking and abuse and at the same time offer treatment and rehabilitation to people who have drug disorders,” he added.

Malami also urged ministers from ECOWAS member countries to adopt the new Regional Drug Action Plan for the year 2016-2020 as it provides a roadmap and working document for the ECOWAS drug control team.
