An explosion at the Maiduguri Monday market today, January 10, 2015 is said to have claimed 10 lives.

The bomb attack was carried out by a 10-year-old girl who blew herself up at about 12:40 pm, AFP reports.

Local vigilante, Ashiru Mustapha told AFP that the market was filled with traders when the female attacker, who “was about 10 years old” set off the bomb.

A Red Cross official, who chose to remain anonymous, said: “We have so far evacuated 10 bodies to the mortuary at the (Borno) State Specialist Hospital.”

A security source also told Premium Times:

“Her body was completely shattered. Because of the high calibre explosive she strapped to her body, the upper part of her body was flung apart and found about 500 metres away.”

A similar attack was carried out in the market on December 1, 2014 after two women blew themselves up killing 10 people.
