Govt threatens to prosecute parents who don’t enrol their kids in school

The Borno state government has threatened to prosecute parents who refuse to enrol their kids in school.

The Borno Attorney General/Commissioner of Justice, Alhaji Kaka-Shehu Lawan, told Punch that the government is offering incentives to parents to get them to co-operate.

He said the state government has also introduced free school buses to encourage kids to return to school.

Lawan said “Any parent either out of ignorance or willingly refuses to send his child to school will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

Adding that “The government has directed the Borno State Basic Education Board to mobilise all children of school age to be enrolled in schools.

“It has also invested heavily in constructing new schools and renovating those vandalised by the Boko Haram terrorists in the course of the insurgency, so as to provide a conducive atmosphere for learning.”

In August 2016, the Kaduna state government mandated parents in the state to enrol their children in schools or face prosecution.

Governor Kashim Shettima recently ‎awarded scholarships to 50 orphanswhose parents were killed by Boko Haram.
