Orgainsed Labour want the state government of Nassarawa to reverse the sack of Ruquayyat Tijani who was reportedly dismissed because she harshly criticized the government which she worked with on social media.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nassarawa State has urged the State governor, Umaru Tanko Almakura to revere the sack of a state counsel, Ruquayyat Tijjani.
NLC said if the termination of appointment of a female worker in the State Ministry of Justice Lafia is not reversed by Al-Makura they will embark on a fresh strike action.
Nasarawa State NLC Chairman Comrade Abdullahi Adeka said the strike action would commence on Monday 29th February 2016 if a meeting with the State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice failed to yield positive result.
“If the decision to sack Ruquayyat Tijjani is not reversed within 24 hours, we would be forced to shut down the state in a fresh strike action” Adeke said.
"The government's action was a breach of contract with Labour that no single civil servant will be victimized after the strike action” Adeka added.
Barrister Ruquayyat Tijjani Usman has been a Grade level 10 steps 1 since March 2nd 2012 as a Senior State Sounsel. She lost her job on February 25th 2016 due to a Facebook post on February 17th 2016.
Ruquayyat Tijjani was quoted in the post as saying, "I can see political thugs on the street protesting and not some professionals. ...are we going down this way?? I weep for my state"
Her comment on the way the state government was handling the Lassa Fever outbreak in the state which led to the death of a health worker with the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia was said to be one of the reasons that pit the state government against her.
