The Principal of Igbobi College, Lagos, Ven. Femi Fasina, has advised parents to engage their children in non-academic activities during holiday.

Fasina told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday that parents that it was important for parents to create time for their children and not to dump them in summer schools for others to take care of.

``Parents makes mistake of pushing them back to lessons because they don’t have time for them, but this is the time for the children to do something else.

``Parents should encourage them and engage them in house chore; they should learn to wake-up in the morning to clean the house.

``Then they should start the act of writing; creative writing.

``Let the parents encourage, engage them in reading - reading beyond their books.

``Like one of the things we have next session is to increase our extra curricula activities in debate and quiz competitions.

``And I have told the students, the quiz is not going to be in Physics and the rest, it is going to be about world events so that we can expand their horizon.

``So I want to encourage the parents that they should engage the students in things outside the classrooms teaching, so that they back with open mind better prepared to face the challenges of academics.’’

Fasina urged parents to use the holiday to teach their children the right morals.
