Dr Asiata Saka, Kwara Commissioner for Women Affairs appealed to the widows to put their trust in God.
Ahmed, who is the Head of the Kwara State Official Wives Association (KWASOWA), said the gesture was to celebrate the Holy month of Ramadan.
While distributing the food items at the Government House in Ilorin, she explained that the month is a period of peace, forgiveness and giving to the less privileged in the society.
“It is necessary to assist at this period of economic recession with its ripple effect on the lives of our people, particularly the widows, who stands to suffer more untold hardship and effects of high prices of goods.
“We considered it worthwhile that the association should lend with a helping hand to cushion some of the adverse effects of the economic hardship,”she said.
Ahmed, who was represented by Hajiya Olanike Oyeleke, wife of the House Leader, Kwara House of Assembly, urge philanthropists and organisations in the communities to complement government’s effort by assisting the indigent in the society.
Also speaking at the event, Dr Asiata Saka, Kwara Commissioner for Women Affairs appealed to the widows to put their trust in God.
She reminded them that the government has not forgotten them and will from time to time reach-out to them.
Speaking on behalf of the widows, who benefited from the Ramadan package, Madam Aminat Alakoso commended Ahmed and the KWASOWA for the kind gesture.
She pledged that the widows will continue to support the state government through their prayers and goodwill.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the items disributed included rice, semovita, spaghetti, sugar and cash among others.
