The popular Sabon Gari market in Kano state has been destroyed by fire again, after a similar incident in March 2016.

The recent fire incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, July 23, 2016, destroying properties worth millions of Naira.

Daily Post reports that the Kano state Director of Fire Service, Mustapha Rilwan, said “The affected shops were made up of shift but our people were able to put off the fire in time.

“The fire was said to have been caused by some people believed to have been cooking in the market.”

The Cable also reports that a witness, Adamu Kofar Mazugal, narrated the incident saying “The fire started at about 4am to 5am at the Gida Maggi section of the market where stuff are sold.

“We saw a thick smoke coming out from the foodstuff section when we quickly alerted the fire fighters.”

Daily Trust says a joint team of police, Army and civil defence officials were deployed to the market to maintain order.
