500 IDPs and state indigenes evacuated from Yobe

The state said the IDPs are indigenes of the Kano state and were part of the 6, 000 persons who returned to the country from Niger Republic recently.

The Kano State Government said on Thursday, May 14, that it has evacuated 500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Geidam in Yobe state.

Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SARERA), Alhaji Ali Bashir, disclosed this to newsmen in Dawakin Kudu, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.

Bashir said the IDPs, who are indigenes of the state, were part of the 6, 000 persons who returned to the country from Niger Republic recently.

He said the IDPs, who returned to the state on Thursday, were camped at Dawakin Kudu.

The executive secretary said the affected persons will stay at the camp pending their return to their respective local government areas.

Bashir said each of the IDPs was given N2, 500 as transport and feeding allowance on their arrival.

He disclosed that the agency also donated 600 bags of maize to the victims to alleviate their sufferings.

Bashir, however, called on local government councils to assist the victims on their return to their respective homes.
