NGO opens mobile clinic to support orphans, vulnerable

An NGO has opened a mobile clinic to support orphans, the vulnerable and children in Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) in Kaduna State.

The clinic, which is an initiative for Muslim Women of Nigeria and the first of its kind in the Country, was established mainly to support vulnerable, orphans and children in IDPs residing in urban areas of Kaduna State.

The Leader of the NGO, Hajiya Rabi’atu Sufyan, told newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday that after wide consultations, the group found out that the category of people to be rendered health support suffer from malnutrition and many other health-related ailments.

According to her, members of the NGO went round the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State particularly where displaced persons are camped and found out that children lack health support.

She said that “the NGO is a Muslim women group; we started this programme with Zone One and intend to expand it to other senatorial districts in due course.”

Sufyan added that the programe was in collaboration with major stakeholders in the health sector who also wanted to contribute their quota toward improving human health.

She said “there are about 17 doctors and 20 nurses working with us; we have vehicles and ambulances that are well equipped with standard laboratories to conduct test on the sick.”

On her part, the group’s Director of Planning, Hajiya Fatima Mohammad, said that the doctors and nurses working with the group also used their personal vehicles to reach out to affected people as most of them reside in the outskirts of Kaduna State.

Mohammad added that “we have decided to support the vulnerable, orphans and children in IDPs because of the insufficient health facility in the state.”

A parent, Malam Abdullahi Ikara, who is a beneficiary of the NGO’s support, commended the women for the initiative and urged government toassist them.

The group’s mandate is to ensure that everyone gets access to good health facility in the country.
