Thugs storm Council Secretariat, beat up councillors

The thugs, believed to be hired, are however demanding Ikponmwosa's return to office.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state.

Miscreants on Monday, January 4, reportedly stormed the Edo council secretariat, beating up counsellors in Oredo local government area.

Report said the thugs threw caution in the wing following the suspension of  the acting chairman of the council, Mrs. Sweet Ikponmwosa last Thursday.

Ikponmwosa was suspended over inability to pay salaries, administrative incompetence and failure to account for Internally Generated Revenue since she assumed office.

The door to her office, which was under locks and secured by policemen, was forced open by the thugs after overpowering the police.

They then descended on other councillors and torn to shreds the clothes of the House Leader, Ernest Edebiri.
