Government to make junior workers mainstay of state’s civil service- HOS

“This workshop is apt and timely, as it will enable the workers know areas in which they would complement their senior counterparts in enhancing the civil service,” he said.

The Ebonyi government says it will make workers in the junior cadre of the state’s civil service, the mainstay of its workforce.

Dr Chamberlain Nwele, state Head of Service (HOS) made the pledge on Monday in Abakaliki, during a workshop organised for workers in the junior cadre of the state’s civil service.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop with the theme, ‘The Role of Junior Workers in a Participatory Governance,’ is being attended by workers in all ministries and parastatals agencies in the state.

Nwele who was represented by Mr Moses Ugo, noted that junior workers constitutes the platform of the state’s civil service and are expected to play leading roles in actualising government’s objectives.

The HOS noted that the state governor always reiterates his desire to rewrite the ugly history of ill-treatment and backwardness confronted by junior workers.

“The governor has always identified with junior workers, as it is expected that the participants would be abreast of modern civil service tenets at the end of the workshop,” he said.

Mrs Grace Chukwu, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Relations said that the workshop would make junior workers see themselves as transformation instruments of the government.

“The governor has shown unbridled love for junior workers which is demonstrated by his courage to accord them their rightful place in the state’s civil service,” she said.

She remarked that the workshop would help the participants know their legal rights, obligations and roles in participatory leadership and governance.

“Effective participation in the workshop will endear participants to the government and prepare them to adjust to leadership positions.

“The size of a nation’s labour force is determined by the size of its adult population and the extent which they are either working or prepared to offer their labour for wages,” she said.

Mr Uchenna Uguru, Chairman of the state’s Junior Workers Association thanked the governor for making the workers feel the impact of participatory governance.

“We have never been allowed to freely express our minds and freely conduct our affairs until currently, and we promise to justify the confidence reposed on us by the government.
