A fresh cholera outbreak in Bayelsa State has left 6 people dead, officials say.

The victims are said to be residents of the Ogbia Local Government Area of the state where President Goodluck Jonathan hails from.

Other members of the community are said to be in critical condition after coming down with the disease.

The outbreak has been confirmed by State House of Assembly member, Obedient Emoto.

Emoto reportedly stated that the epidemic had brought suffering to the people and warned that unless urgent steps were taken, it could claim more lives.

An official of the ministry of health reportedly told Premium Times that health personnel and drugs had been deployed to the area to contain the spread of the disease.
