Some of the women told a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews in Bauchi on Tuesday that the new lifestyle had helped to stave off debilitating disease burdens.
They identified some of the diseases as High Blood Pressure and Diabetes.
Hajiya Zainab Abdulkadir, the founder of the gymnasium, told NAN that her husband donated the facility to assist married women interested in exercising their bodies.
Abdulkadir noted that other available gymnasiums were for both men and women, hence the need to provide a facility for only married women.
She observed that some married women suffering from these diseases, had resorted to taking prescribed drugs to manage their ailments and dieting to reduce their weights.
This, she said, was due to the fact that many husbands, due to religion and norms, would not allow daily walkouts.
“After several years of taking diabetic drugs, I decided to try exercise to reduce the in-take of medical drugs.
“The centre was provided by my husband in order to further encourage and support the management of my ailment,’’ she said.
Also speaking, Hajiya Hauwa Mustapha said that regular exercises had made her active, healthy and fashionable.
Mustapha said that her friend, who had been in Bauchi for a while, introduced the centre to her.
Similarly, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar thanked her husband for encouraging her to take advantage of the facilities at the centre.
Abubakar said that in the last three to four years, her weight was 130 kgs but that within one and half years of patronising the centre, she had reduced to 90 kgs without dieting.
She commended the efforts of the founder and the technical team for such initiative designed to help married women across all ages to maintain physical fitness.
Meanwhile, the Assistant coach at the facility, Mrs Jamila Yakubu, said that no fewer than 60 women attended the centre daily for aerobics.
According to Yakubu, the centre daily attracts new members due to its efficiency in promoting healthy lifestyles.
