FRSC Mobile court convicts 43 traffic offenders

She said that the offences included driver’s licence violation, seat belt violation and use of mobile phones while driving.

Federal Road Safety Corps

The Sector Commander of the commission, Mrs Cecilia Alao, made the disclosure when she spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uyo on Sunday.

Alao said the convicts were given options of fines ranging from N5000 to N20,000, while one person was discharged and acquitted.

Alao added that the convicts included a truck driver sentenced to one year imprisonment for obstructing and assaulting an FRSC marshal from performing his duty on March 22.

The sector commander said that the truck driver was also charged with drivers’ licence violation, which he pleaded guilty.

According to her, the use of mobile court is part of its enforcement strategy to reduce road traffic crashes in the state.

``The mobile court has yielded a lot of result because the moment a court sentences anyone, the person becomes an ex-convict and people see him/her as such.

``The use of mobile courts has really helped us to reduce the rate of road crashes in the country and we will continue to prosecute road traffic offenders,” she said.

Alao appealed to motorists in the state to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations while driving.
