With a total of 3,168,101 populations in Adamawa State, 81,500 persons are living with HIV/AIDS out of which 4,260 are pregnant women, Pulse gathered.
Adamawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr Fatima Atiku Abubakar who confirmed the figure said the state was battling on how to meet the need of the affected persons in other to reduce the scourge.
Dr Fatima said the State government’s collaboration with the World Bank it already creation an impact in the life of People Living with HIV/AIDS.
“Our effort is to provide succour to over 81,500 persons living with HIV/ AIDS. 4,260 are pregnant women. We want to prevent them from transmitting the disease to their unborn babies,” Fatima said.
Dr Fatima who said she was satisfied with the efforts being put in place by all stakeholders in the fight against the scourge, added that their efforts and many other innervations has lead to the drop of the HIV prevalence in the state from 3.8 to 1.9.
She assured the World Bank, Community Based Organizations and other partners of the state government commitment towards fighting HIV/AIDS.
